Become a Mentor

By collaborating with professionals early in their public health careers, mentors can develop their own leadership skills, improve their communication skills, learn from diverse perspectives, and gain personal satisfaction.

The New to Public Health Residency Program team will match each mentor with one to three residents. Group mentoring sessions between residents and mentors should be scheduled for one hour per month.

Mentors are supported through an initial orientation, resources (guidebook, discussion templates), session summaries, scavenger hunts, access to an evidence-based practice course, and optional monthly micro-learning and networking calls.

Mentors must:

  • Have at least one year of current or past experience in public health (e.g., government public health, non-government public health, educational institutions)
  • Agree to a 12-month commitment with resident(s)
  • Connect with resident(s) for one hour per month
  • Attend initial mentor orientation
