Key Findings of PH WINS 2014

  • The majority of the public health workforce is female (72%), white (70%), and have bachelor’s degrees (75%) and less than a quarter of the workforce has a degree in public health.
  • State health agency workers are satisfied with their jobs and their organizations, but not their pay.
  • Women dominate the workforce, but not the pay. They earn 90 to 95 cents on the dollar compared to men. There is also the same disparity between employees of color compared to their non-Hispanic white colleagues.
  • The top area of training need is policy development.
