Something that would surprise others about me:
As a parent of young children, I learned that one plus one does not always equal two. I appreciate the support of family and friends. It really does take a village to raise a child.
Dr. Shelly Choo is the Director of the Bureau of Maternal and Child Health (MCH) at the Maryland Department of Health. In her role, she oversees offices that administer essential MCH services such the Maryland Title V program, Family Planning, WIC, and home visiting. She previously served as the Chief Medical Officer at the Baltimore City Health Department, overseeing various population health initiatives such as the Accountable Health Communities Initiatives and the Levels of Care for Baltimore City Hospitals to Respond to the Opioid Epidemic. Prior, she served as the Senior Medical Advisor with B’more for Healthy Babies and led infant safe sleep training and provider outreach efforts to improve MCH outcomes.
Dr. Choo is board-certified in Preventive Medicine and General Public Health, and previously served as a Medical Fellow with NBC News. She received her MPH from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and her medical degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
