Shea Van Horn

Program Officer, PHCC

Shea Van Horn is a Program Officer supporting the Public Health Communications Collaborative (PHCC) at the de Beaumont Foundation. In this role, he helps advance PHCCโ€™s work to equip public health communicators with timely, practical tools, training, and learning opportunities that strengthen communication practice across the country. He supports efforts that help public health professionals communicate more effectively so communities have what they need to make informed decisions about their health.

Over the past two decades, Shea has worked on public health communications initiatives for federal and public-sector clients, with a focus on HIV prevention as well as nutrition, physical activity, and tobacco control. His work has included providing strategic communications technical assistance and training to state and local health departments and community partners, translating complex science, policy, and program goals into clear, actionable communication strategies. His experience spans cross-sector collaboration and stakeholder engagement, with an emphasis on strengthening practice and supporting communications approaches that drive real-world impact.

Shea earned his MS from American University with a focus on health communication and has lived abroad in Athens, Greece, and Bangalore, India. Outside of work, he is active in DCโ€™s arts and music communities and enjoys travel, cooking, and spending time with his husband and dog.
