Looking for a convenient way to improve your skills in budgeting and financial management from the comfort of your home? The online course Building Expertise in Administration & Management (BEAM) takes 15 to 20 hours to complete, offering an opportunity to gain skills and earn a certificate at your own pace.
Developed by the University of Miami, the de Beaumont Foundation, and other experts in business and public health, Building Expertise in Administration & Management (BEAM) offers public health professionals practical skills in budgeting, finance, and management.
“People in public health are skilled in their particular areas of expertise, but public health schools don’t teach many skills that are vital in organizations that are required to do more with less,” said Brian C. Castrucci, DrPH, president and CEO of the de Beaumont Foundation. “The BEAM course was designed specifically to meet the needs of public health agencies and nonprofits, by people who have hands-on experience in the field.”
Roderick K. King, associate professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences in the Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami, said, “We believe the BEAM course will improve the skills, efficiency, and impact of public health professionals and their organizations.”
The course:
- Is self-paced and interactive, featuring real-world challenges through videos and other engaging content.
- Can be completed in 15 to 20 hours.
- Covers strategic problem definition, budgeting, procurement, contracts, contract management, and financial health.
- Is affordably priced at $500, with group discounts available.
Among public health professionals who have taken a pilot course, 100 percent said the learning objectives were useful for their job, the course was worth the time commitment, and they plan to use their new skills in their current job. More than 90 percent said they felt more confident in their work after taking the course.
