Mervin Dino (he/him)
40 Under 40 Class of 2025
Chicago, IllinoisAssistant Commissioner
Chicago Department of Public Health
My journey in public health is fundamentally and wholeheartedly about the human spirit, and I am determined to be a forward-thinking, compassionate, and resilient leader for the future of our field.
Three words to describe me:
Human, Wholehearted, Atrevido (Daring)
The best part of my job:
Every day, whether on my way to work at the health department, working in communities, or even going for a run near the lakefront, I always find strength in knowing that the people I see walking on the streets, and the people in their lives are, indeed, public health. I also carry the wisdom from the people who have shared their stories with me – from my time as a hospital administrator rounding the floors almost every day during COVID, young people who remind me to stretch and learn, and close family and loved ones who keep me grounded – this wisdom propels me forward.
Something that would surprise others about me:
I am a lifelong long jumper and sprinter!
