Position Overview – What You’ll Do
Reporting to the Senior Program Officer/General Programs Lead, you will have an unparalleled opportunity to contribute to a fast paced, big-thinking, mission-driven organization. This unique role directly supports and influences the work of one of the nation’s leading health philanthropies.
You will have the opportunity to support projects, key Foundation initiatives, and facilitate the completion of projects with high importance and visibility. Specifically, you will be supporting the foundation’s General Programs portfolio, which includes a wide range of initiatives and efforts to strengthen public health systems, policies, practices, and partnerships that center racial equity. Your responsibilities will vary and require you to prioritize effectively, act quickly, strategically, and maintain confidentiality. This position will significantly contribute to the Foundation’s impact by ensuring maximum execution and value for all Foundation activities.
- Support and manage day-to-day operations of simultaneous high-priority Foundation projects with complex external communications plans and often with high stakes constituents
- Contribute to strategic planning and problem-solving by providing timely and relevant information, input, and recommendations
- Coordinate with other Foundation staff including Communications, and Research Evaluation, and Learning Teams to programs have strong marketing/communications plans and impact measures
- Support and manage (as needed) external stakeholder relationships with partners and grantees to ensure that programs meet both the Foundation’s strategic goals and the needs
- Support the development and implementation of project workplans while maintaining an understanding of projects, timelines, deliverables, and due dates and ensure timely completion of all tasks
- Support the development of meeting agendas and manage follow up on internal and external meetings. When needed, participate in meetings and follow up with the relevant parties
- Identifying and prioritizing specific policy, program, and practice goals and outcomes grounded in evidence and centering equity
- Contribute to drafting and co-author blogs, commentaries, books and book chapters, and peer-reviewed articles
- Conceive and plan Foundation special meetings and events
- Conduct research, create PowerPoint Presentations, and draft speeches and talking points for external and internal presentations and speaking engagements
Who You Are
You are a pragmatic, results-oriented, hands-on public health professional with a successful track record in developing equitable policy and/or practice impacting the public health workforce. You have experience, deep exposure, and/or subject matter expertise in public health systems efforts, especially workforce development, recruitment, and retention. You are experienced in navigating the complex politics of advancing a more equitable public health system. You will be able to demonstrate each of the following:
- Mission-driven: You want to make a difference and have experience in successfully leading health equity work. You are a thought leader in creating and promoting policy and program solutions to end inequities in health and the social determinants of health.
- Ownership: You care deeply about doing what it takes to facilitate results, including paying attention to even small details, managing your own projects (or pieces of bigger ones), driving work forward with a sense of urgency, anticipating problems, and course-correcting when needed
- Team player: You are eager to use your role to advance de Beaumont’s mission and look for ways to help beyond your own core responsibilities. You are ready and willing to participate in all-hands-on-deck projects, which frequently come up. No job is too small for anyone on our team and your attitude reflects that.
- Critical thinking skills: You know how to quickly process information and draw out the key points of various publications/documents to summarize and share with the leadership team on a host of public health related issues.
- Relationship management: You have a good sense of how to manage internal relationships (i.e. with senior leadership) and grow external ones. You know how to handle confidential information, use discretion around what information you share both internally and externally, and routinely apply good judgment as to when to involve the Senior Program Officer and others in decision-making.
- Attention to detail: You consistently ensure materials and communications are accurate (both content and grammar), precise, and completed on time.
- Passion: You have a strong commitment to public health, racial equity, and the work of de Beaumont Foundation.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Master’s degree required. MPH, MPP, or MPA preferred and three to five years of relevant work experience, particularly within the public health field
- Ability to research best practices to establish promising, innovative, and best practices to public health and policy innovation
- Strong diplomatic, motivational, and communication skills (written, verbal and presentation) including the ability to lead up, across and down
- Strong organization and project management skills—ability to see the big picture, manage small details, and create and maintain systems that enhance organizational efficiency
- Self-motivated, decisive, with the ability to adapt to change and competing demands
- Demonstrated ability to meet multiple deadlines by maintaining a high level of organization
- Able to move quickly and nimbly from one project to another, marshal resources, and manage expectations and timelines to achieve results
- Strong understanding of confidentiality and the ability to handle sensitive information appropriately
- Proven ability to work as a team-oriented, collaborative environment demonstrating creativity, innovation and excellence, and taking initiative when appropriate
- Very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with multiple stakeholders—optimistic, thoughtful, curious, and personable
- Strong work ethic and commitment to high standards of excellence coupled with an enthusiastic approach to work
- Must have proficiency using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
- Knowledge of data, scientific writing, epidemiology is preferred
The de Beaumont team is collaborative, passionate, and deeply committed to creating bold solutions for healthier communities.
This position is full-time and based in downtown Bethesda, MD, just outside of Washington, DC. The de Beaumont Foundation follows a hybrid work model with employees working in the office on some days and from home on others (individual schedules are set with supervisors). This position is not eligible for full-time remote work—you must live within driving distance of the Foundation’s office in Bethesda.
Compensation is commensurate with experience. The salary range is $70,000 to $80,000. The Foundation also offers excellent benefits and a collegial work environment.
